Choosing a top transitional living program for young women from Maine

After an intense therapeutic wilderness setting in Maine, close-knit and away from mainstream society, going back to normal can be difficult, and sometimes a transitional space is required to consolidate new skills and our new self. Journey Home fits this type of demand and is one of the leading transitional living programs from Maine.

Journey Home is a transitional living program intended for young women between the ages of 16 and 21, who have already had a successful experience in a therapeutic wilderness setting, and now want to improve their emotional, practical and social skills in order to be and feel more independent and successful. Picture8

Although not located in Maine, Journey Home helps young women from all over the country, and can continue the process started at a wilderness therapy center.

Journey Home€™s therapeutic approach focuses on choosing, with the help of parents and a specialized professional team, goals to accomplish in five core principles:

  • Healthy living
  • Education
  • Life Skills
  • Personal Responsibility
  • Social Integration

They are intended to be foundations for a better and more successful future.

What makes Journey Home one of the best transitional living programs is that we understand that there is a conflict between these young women€™s needs, like time to fully assimilate the new skills and lessons, and the pressing demands of society that is always pushing to go on and never stop. That€™s why our main mission is to provide a transitional space that allows for peace and time to grow as well as giving residents the opportunity to develop socially useful skills.

Successful Outcomes at one of the leading transitional living programs helping young women from Maine

Journey Home, one of the leading transitional living program from Maine, offers some of the most advanced transitional environments in the country. It€™s scientifically proven that focusing on building a sense of agency and personal responsibility is the best path to build self-esteem. Picture4

The first step of this path is that it is not the first step at all. Our transitional living program is intended to provide a transition time between any treatment program and going back to normal society for young women between 16 and 21 from Maine. To do so, during the day, girls will attend high school or college, and return to Journey Home base in the evening, where they can find the warmth and comfort of a traditional home setting.

Every girl is guided by €œhouse parents€ that function as individual guides to help her with reaching goals and with practical things like homework and school or college studies. They have at least one follow-up interview every two weeks.

During permanence, girls from Maine are involved in many activities to enhance life-skills, such as: maintaining cleanliness of living space and property, budgeting, time management, meal preparation, shopping, transportation, gaining employment, appropriate recreation, personal hygiene, nutrition and fitness. They can also attend high school or pursue college courses.

But not all of our transitional living program from Maine is teaching and educating. Some of the regular group activities at the Journey Home include €œFun Food Friday€, snow sports in the winter, visiting museums, going to movies, exploring the local outdoors by hiking and biking, and many other local events and activities. Many of these activities are carefully planned by Journey Home itself.
