Here are a few suggestions, rather than rules to
follow:
1. Examine
the way you talk to yourself. You may find yourself putting
yourself and everyone else down. Detach yourself from negative
self-talk. Decide to get off your own case.
2. Reach instead for ways to trust yourself more, to learn from your endeavors
whether they work out or not.
3.
Accept
your humanity as fallible, rather than terminally flawed.
Find ways to be kinder toward
yourself.
4.
Don’t
isolate yourself but do find solitude. Solitude is a time to be
with yourself; isolation is a way to defend yourself from
imagined harm.
5.
Movement
and exercise break up depression. Get moving everyday.
6.
If
you are overeating, eat nourishing food in moderation. If you’ve stopped eating,
sit down with 3 healthy meals every day.
7.
Stop
drinking, drugging, sleeping too much, and glowering
at
the TV.
8.
Ask
for help. Find a therapist who works with people struggling with
depression. Talk
with a trusted friend about your feelings.
Above all, let your case against yourself rest.
