Gardens transport us
from
our everyday world where
we often lose ourselves in work, shopping, driving, and parenting to one
designed solely by Mother Nature.
This cob bench sits in the
heart of our Medicinal Plant Garden. Framed by an arbor and surrounded by medicinal plants, this
seating area
offers us time to reflect and remember the gifts of sustenance, medicine,
textiles, and beauty our
planet freely provides. It creates a still point in the hub of
the Garden and gives
us time to contemplate the beauty and
wonder of our natural world.

A stone spiral has been placed in front of the bench,
a reminder of the human
quest for meaning. The
bench sits on large
stones
and is framed partly by
wooden branches. Made of garden mud and
straw, it is protected from the elements with several
applications of linseed oil and beeswax. It
was designed and
built by Jennie Spreckels.
"We
come from the Earth
and to the Earth we return.
In between we garden."
